Regional fibre supports rural target
The New Zealand Regional Fibre Group (NZRFG) welcomes the Government’s announcement on the provision of ultra-fast broadband to rural New Zealand.
The NZRFG believes that regional plans developed by regional players will deliver the best outcomes for rural NZ.
Northpower Chief Executive Mark Gatland said that representatives from the regional fibre group had been developing rural strategies for their regions to meet the local needs of their local economies.
“Many of our members are already investing in infrastructure in their communities and we look forward to responding to the full detail of the Government’s revised approach.”
Mr Gatland said Northpower has plans to cover all the schools in its region and would provide a fibre node base for wireless broadband overlay across the region.
Ken Sutherland of Unison said today’s announcement ties in very well with the announcements that Unison made last week regarding its plans for Napier and Hastings.
“We see connection of our region’s schools as very important to the community.”
Steve Fuller of Christchurch based Enable Networks said, “The NZRFG will offer the Government integrated rural and metropolitan solutions that provide genuine open access broadband connectivity based on regional needs and regional priorities.”
