$345,000 - a record amount for the Electricity Helicopter Appeal

Published on April 30th 2007, 12:49pm

During a breakfast for Northland’s ‘helicopter heroes’, Electricity Rescue Helicopter joint sponsors , Northpower and Top Energy, presented the Northland Emergency Services Trust (NEST) with a cheque for $345,377.98 – the largest amount ever raised during any public appeal for helicopter service.

The ‘helicopter heroes’ breakfast was held to acknowledge the outstanding service these men and women provide and to celebrate the record amount raised during the 2006 Appeal.

Northpower in partnership with Top Energy has supported the Electricity Rescue Helicopter since the service first began, but over time costs associated with it have more than quadrupled.  In response to the increased costs, the joint sponsors stepped up to the challenge to match public donations, dollar for dollar, raising more funds than ever.

NEST, receives no direct government funding and relies on the generosity of the Northland community to maintain its rescue services.  The money raised from the Appeal goes towards the standing costs of the helicopter, such as pilots’ wages, insurance, interest on loans, and training.

The joint sponsors assisted with the costs of the Appeal campaign, which meant that every cent donated went directly to the Electricity Helicopter.  NEST, Top Energy and Northpower extend their gratitude to all those who donated.

Donations to the Electricity Rescue Helicopter Appeal can be made all year round, at any Northland ASB Bank.
