The line charge holiday is distributed to all customers connected to Northpower’s lines as at midnight 21st February 2006 . Northpower network customers who use between 2,000 - 15,000 units per year will receive a $120 credit. Small users (less than 2000) will receive $50 and the large users (greater than 15000 units) will receive $195. The ‘line charge holiday’ will appear on March power accounts regardless of the electricity retailer. The amount will be credited directly to the customer’s account. Northpower Chairman Warren Moyes said that Northpower’s Line and Contracting businesses are performing strongly and the company is well placed to give this amount to customers. “We are pleased to be able to pass on a contribution to customers as result of the company’s performance,” he said. Mr Moyes says that the success of Northpower is closely tied to the development of Northland. “Northpower can do its best for the company and Northland by providing our customers with a safe, reliable and hassle free service . Our line charges remain below the average of all the lines companies in New Zealand and this credit will further add to our regions growth and prosperity,” he said. “Customers connected to Northpower's lines will save a total of $6 Million on their electricity charges. This amount is what the company would have expected to receive for maintaining and operating the lines, transformers, and poles for two and a half months,” Mr Moyes said. “Including this year’s ‘line charge holiday’ , Northpower will have given back $48 million to customers since the sale of the retail business in November 1998,” he said. Northpower also contributes a dividend to the Northpower Electric Power Trust (NEPT) on an annual basis in addition to the ‘ line charge holiday’ .
