The existing two 7.5 MVA transformers will be replaced with two brand new 15 MVA transformers. This means that should one of the transformers trip-out or require servicing then the other transformer is capable of providing the entire load of Dargaville on it own. Furthermore along with the two transformers also comes new tap changers, which will maintain the voltage within acceptable limits. The increase in transformer capabilities also allows for growth in power consumption in Dargaville. The new capacity for Dargaville will be around a peak demand of 17MVA in comparison to the current peak demand of around 10 MVA. Currently tenders are out for the supply of the equipment required, with the project scheduled to be completed by the end of the year. Northpower's chief executive Mark Gatland said the contract is a real benefit for Dargaville and shows Northpower's commitment to enhance the power supply of our area. Northpower is committed to increasing reliability and security of supply in our area and this upgrade will greatly enhance our ability in Dargaville to achieve this. Dargaville's power supply is to be enhanced further by Trans power's current replacement of aging conductors and poles on the original line to Dargaville. This project is currently underway and is scheduled for completion by the time the new transformers are installed. |
