And since 1994 Northpower has supported the Centre’s quest to preserve Northland’s natural environment and bird life. The Centre takes in injured birds and nurses them to health for release back into the wild. Nearly 60% of all birds received by the Centre are successfully released. Those that are not released because of permanent injury remain at the Centre cared for by Home to nine resident birds, the Centre received around 1300 injured or abandoned birds last year, including kiwi, wood pigeons, harrier hawks, blue penguins, petrels, moreporks and albatrosses among other birds. The number of birds taken to the Centre has doubled every year since it opened in 1994.
